I'm finally got a chance to post some basketball images! Haven't had much of a chance the past couple of months. These are from our local district tournament.

I shot all last year with a Rebel XSi and a 50 f/1.8II. This year is the first time shooting basketball with my 1D2 and 70-200 f/2.8L, and I love it! All season long, though, I've had to shoot at ISO 3200 to get 1/400 SS at our home gym.

All these images are at a different gym, and I was able to shoot ISO 1600!!!! I was so thrilled! Maybe I should have left it at 3200 and upped my SS to 1/500, but I personally find 1/400 acceptable. C&C is always welcome! Thanks.

Eric,

nice, bright shots with plenty of light and color. Good action but IMO a bit spoiled by the slower shutter speeds. As sharp as #23 is in pic 4, it's a shame the 'action' isn't quite that sharp.

For my money, 1/640 is the right SS for HS basketball. Pretty much stops everything cold except the ball if it's moving fast. No shame in raising that ISO to get fast enough shutter speed. When you get proper exposure, noise isn't too overbearing!

Thanks Dave! I am going back to that gym this week for the divisional tournament. I will try and up the ISO to 3200. That should get me at least 1/500...not sure about 1/640, because these were a tad underexposed as it was. I upped the exposure a bit in DPP before converting to jpg. But I will give it a try. I think you're right; eventually I would love to get strobes. But that will be a while in the future... :D

I was about to comment that these shots looked like they had been bumped up in post. I see a lot of noise in the jerseys/darks. Advice has already been given though, crank that baby to 3200 and go to work.
Keep em coming.

For shooting ambient I think these look great. I would agree on the 1/400ss but otherwise the shots are nice. I think I like #6 the best.

Thanks guys! I wasn't able to make the tournament this week, so I'll have to wait until next year; unless the guys actually make the state tournament next week. I really appreciate the help you guys are giving me!
