Hotdogs and NoDoze.

I could go for a black olive, ricotta, and spinach pizza and a Belgian ale!

I had a snapshot stolen from me once but here is the kicker - it was taken from an ebay auction on an item I was selling. The guy took it and used it in his auction for the same item. I told him to remove it and he said "What's the big deal?" /?? Big deal? You have a picture of MY item, in MY kitchen and it is competing with MY auction!!! People are dumb.

He could at least wait until your auction is done.

Not to mention he wasn't showing what he was selling, just a similar item.

+1 For that sentiment... I'd have reported that to ebay to "remove the competition" :P

I did - they canceled his auction.

Putting the watermark in the middle of an image does nothing except ruin the picture. A good Photoshopper can take out any watermark anyplace on the photo if they want to steal the picture badly enough.

Those that complain about watermarks on images are usually the ones who like to use images they "find" on the internet. If someone really wants your image, sure they can spend a few hours with photoshop at 600% magnification to eliminate the watermark; but if they are into stealing, they'd be inclined to just take a different image that doesn't require hours of photo editing. It deters those looking for the quick and easy!

Send them a cease and desist letter along with an invoice for the use of the photo preferably from a lawyer for more clout.

They are a business (specialising in photography) so should know copyright law.

Actually, I've seen a couple of Photoshop actions that you can download free that remove watermarks in seconds.

Besides, doesn't it actually deter legitimate buyers who want to see the photo itself - in its clarity.

Bear with me if I don't get it because I'm not a pro and have never sold a photo on its own in my life. But when someone buys a photo from you do you remove the watermark? Can I buy the digital image or do you only sell prints?

If so, forget the image pirate, if I pay good money for a photo I sure don't want that watermark in the middle of it.

I don't know about others, but I have two files. One hi-rez and no watermark or copyright at all for selling, and one low(er)-rez with a watermark for internet display purposes.

Actually, you gotta be careful on ebay (or in my case on a Apple/Mac forum site) where people post pics of products (especially collectible stuff) as eBay scammers will take the pic and pretend they are "selling" that very item...

Of course there's no watermark on the print. Watermarks are for image protection through email and websites. And no I don't sell digital files unless the price is considerable.
