I have to ask...

Does it matter *what purpose* the photos are being sold? Is this a case where selling as 'fine art' might be ok, but for commercial purposes not? I'm guessing from the responses that this distinction does not apply here, so if anyone could enlighten me a bit as to the difference I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

only if it is editorial.
Not sure there is a distinction between commercial and fine art.

By stepping foot on their grounds, you assume responsibility for adhering to all the rules they have in place, whether or not you can read them or not. It's the same as walking into a sports arena. You don't have access to read all the rules, but you're still legally obligated to abide by them.

That is not true. If you break the rules all they can do is ask you to leave. Though, if you refuse you are trespassing. You aren't doing anything illegal when you take a picture while standing in front of a sign that 'forbids' it.

Yeah, I know that. Re-read my post. When I said, "You don't have access to read all the rules, but you're still legally obligated to abide by them," I meant that every single zoo rule is not posted by the front gate. However, you assume responsibility to abide by the rules by entering the park. It's the same as walking into Yankee Stadium. Every single ball park rule isn't on the back of the ticket or printed on the turnstyle as you walk in. However, if you don't abide by the established rules, then they have the right to ask you to leave or even detain you, depending on the severity of the infraction. I never said photographing at the zoo was illegal. I don't think anyone on here said that. The same is true w/ taking pictures at Yankee Stadium. It isn't illegal; however, attempting to sell them can be.
