I think you have some really strong and interesting elements in the first shot with the sheep. There are some great highlight contrasts between the smoother, grazed field and the feathery trees to the right. I love the way they arc down the slope.

Might I suggest though a tighter crop to remove that oof foreground tree at the left. IMO I feel it's a distraction that draws your eye away from the more dominant areas of the composition. It's a good solid image and by tightening it up that can make it an even better photograph.

Better - I think those are the more engaging areas of the composition.

Very moody and atmospheric Annie - nice conversion. Out of curiosity what is the sense of scale....were you hundreds of feet from what appears to be a distant landscape or are those nearer foreground rocks?

Thanks for that. That photo was taken at 70mm and this is the same scene at 38mm. (Note: I did not spend much time processing it.) I'm standing above a big drop and you can see the road disappearing steeply into the corrie (valley) below.

Thanks Annie - they are both nice compositions.

You may want to consider a crop that includes a portion of the road, just to give the scene a stronger sense of scale. We all know how big roads can be, and when we see one that small, winding it's way across a gargantuan landscape, it makes us all stop and reflect. IMO I feel that would make for a stronger emotional impact, really conveying to the viewer just how massive the landscape is.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I may work on this one or another at 42mm and see if I can recreate the mood of the original but include the portion of road that's visible.

You are very welcome.

I only brought up the issue because I've done similar shots, cropping at the time the picture was taken, feeling the grandeur of the moment only to realize that viewers would not feel the same way later never having been there. At least with digital we can take a number of shots....do, and undo to our hearts desire. Learn from my mistakes.
