What's the diameter of the mini vs. the maxi? Also what didn't you like about the larger deflector?

I didn't keep the Maxi so I can't measure it but the mini is just a hair under 5 inches in diameter. I think the Maxi is roughly 7" in diameter.

Thanks Rob! Not hard to find him in that position - I think he suffers from vertigo! ;)

P.S. Sleeping has always been one of his favourite activities, even when he was a puppy. Spot the impostor:

I'm interested in why you like a small center diffuser too Robert?
Do you have it adjusted very close to the flash tube? I have found that in some cases too small of one sends too much direct flash out of the dish. This can cause a pattern to be projected when using a grid. A small one might not be a issue if you can get it close enough to the flash tube, but often the modeling light will prevent getting it close enough to solve the issue. Thoughts?

Not a problem, Rudi. You well know that's my favorite photo of baby Harry.

By the way, those are your stuffed animals on the other end of the sofa, aren't they?

I'm using the 600RX's which have the very small modeling light. When I use the mini deflector I place it about 1 inch from the flash tube.
One thing I didn't like with the maxi deflector was the way it translated to the catch light and created and even larger black hole. I didn't like it or find it flattering. I also didn't like the way it changed the way the hot spot and the pattern of the dish. For my taste, I found too much of the central light to be muted and lost.

I've actually been thinking of taking one of the gold deflectors that I don't use, painting it with high temperature reflective silver and mounting it to the dish.
