Ha ha fooled ya! But this is my idea of doing grotesque portraits. One speedotron light, large softbox.

No has anything to say on two images? The first of which I feel is very unique in the world?

Ok!

I will agree here. Just looks like he is putting on a heavy strain for a smirk......

Wrong you are! I am certain that everything has NOT been done! You know the famous quote: "Everything that can be invented has been invented." said by Charles H. Duell, U.S. Commissioner of Patents, in 1899.

Thinking that everything has already been done is really going to limit your creativity!

Couldnt agree more, Woomahodal.

If you don't like it, if it doesn't do anything for you, that's cool. Can I as where you have seen similar work though? I'd love to be in touch with more grotesque portraiture.

Btw, you don't think the composition in the first one is interesting or different?

I often wonder why "good" portraiture, or at least accepted portraiture, is about seriousness. Humor is a very important human emotion, directly linked to our evolution and survival. I want to portray that in a way that matches my feelings for people. The second shot was really just a learning process, using a single light & reflector to achieve super smooth lighting. The first shot is more indicative of where this project will head. I don't ask one bit that any one likes it (in fact, pure hatred is a desirable emotion to me), but you have to admit it's not exactly like the other portraiture you see so often especially on internet message boards.

When it comes to great art, it either does it for you or it doesn't. You can take something as commonly known as classical music (Mozart, for instance) and there is a large community that understands, respects, and enjoys the music, but there is also a large group of people who think it is ancient and that "pop" music of today is superior.

I have posted tons of pictures on this site (and others like it) that nobody really understood my intention. Its part of being an artist!

Of course, art is so subjective it's almost pointless to argue it. But again, is the composition somewhat unique? And is the overall feeling of the mood represented in other artist's work? If so, I would love some links people!

That first shot kind of looks like Michael Jackson, assuming that's a color image.

Regarding #1, I don't feel the composition is unique. I've seen plenty of MySpace photos with people cutting half of the subjects face off. A very public image would be that of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.....obviously the two photos have been composited together but you get the point.

Thats two faces in a rectangle. Not one face in a square. A half-face look is not the only element of the composition in my piece. Just setting the facts straight, again, I'm not seeking to convert anyone.

im not going to get into this argument, but they look posed, which i know they are, but you might try to find a way to not make them look as forced.
