I currently have a 50D and I want to get a full frame camera (weddings) I don't do video and the 5D mk2 cost a lot more than the classic. What do you think is better (keeping in mind cost)? Is there another full frame I should be looking at? Thanks

The 5D2 offers advantages over the 5D other than video. It depends if these advantages are something you care about

1. 12MP vs 21MP
2. newer image processor
3. Higher Iso capability
4. Better build (more specifically "weather" resistant)
5. Micro Adjust
6. Auto sensor cleaning

If you feel the newer features are not worth the extra $1k, then go for the classic, it is a great camera. If you feel like you care about those features, get the 5D2, it is also a great camera =)

Should I just wait and see if Canon comes out with a new 5D or a full-frame for under 2.5k?

The 5D2 does cost under $2.5k. I don't think the 5D2 is getting replaced until at least another year, so you will be waiting a long time if you wait.

If your location is correct (In Los Angles, California) then you can use bing cash back.

Here is a 5D2 from an authorized Canon dealer. It costs $2,399.95 without bing cash back. With bing cash back it is down to (8%) $2,207.95.

If you have the scratch, get the 5DMkII.

Despite the fact that Canon did not crank the features up all that much, it simply makes better images and IMO that should be Job 1 for you.

Wow thanks, that looks like a good deal, how do I get the 8% off? Would I order it, or do they have a local dealer in LA?

5DII is worth it but not needed to enjoy FF goodness ;). That's why the 5D classic is still very popular.

I am guessing you are not familiar with bing cash back, no biggie.

1. Make a bing cash back account. If you already have a xbox live account or something, just use that. Register that account here http://www.bing.com/cashback/ (external link)

2. Use the bing search engine to search for something like "xbox" or "wii". It doesn't really matter. At the top of the page you will see something that looks like this:

IMAGE: http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx291/themadmanazn/bingcashback1-1.jpg

It should say "XBox - www.eBay.com (external link) - " Then a gold dollar coin then "Bing cashback"

Click on the "Bing cashback"

3. This takes you to eBay with Bing cashback enabled. All you have to do now is search for the camera in the search field. Use the seller I linked in the earlier post, that is the only one I have found that is authorized on eBay. Look for the gold coin as that tells you it is Bing cashback eligible. (see picture below)

4. Use the "Buy it Now" Option and buy it =) Bing Cashback will give you money back to you paypal account. Some times it sets a delay of 3 months, some times it happens instantly, I am not sure why the difference, but I have always gotten my money and I have used bing cash back 5 times.

Don't bother with the 5D Mk2 - ridiculous file sizes, hasn't been out long enough so you don't really know what you're buying (... already heard a few negative things abut it though), and what do you want HD video for?! It's a camera. See if you can get a used 5D MkI or a 1Ds Mk1. Awesome cameras, FF and don't cost a lot any more.

What camera doesn't get negative feedback though?

Regarding the 5DII: You can always shoot in sRAW for smaller file sizes. And it's been out for quite some time, actually.

The 5D Mark 2 has been out for, what ... a year? The 5D Mk1 came out in 2005, so has been used more widely and by more people in all kinds of conditions .... plus it's still a very popular camera and regarded as a classic (which it is, by the way) .... something I can't see happening with the Mk2.

How much should I pay? I found a Classic with 15,000 shots for $1000, or a new 5D mk2 for $2,200
