To be honest I don't know the specifications of what causes the triggers to "wakeup" the speedlights from sleep mode, I just know that when I used them in a "real" life situation, they did. I know that the V2s did not, so I am use to having to wake up the speedlights manually.

On another note, how do you like the 7D and it interactivity with the speedlights? I have been thinking about moving up to the 7D but have not had a chance to get my hands on one to play with it.

How do you do it? I assume by triggering a flash? Does the flash fire at that point or just start charging?

With the RF-602s a half-press on the shutter will wake the flashes, but not fire the flashe(s).

The 7D's flash control is fantastic. I use it all the time for indoor work. It's very quick to set up and allows you to control the remote flashes directly from the camera.

I use my RF-602's only for trickier work where I have no line of sight.
