Tried the 1D MK IV on hockey. All shot above the scorer's table about 15 feet. The 1st is at 3200 ISO the rest at 1600. 1/1000sec at f2.8. The lens was 70-200 f2.8L. No PP done except to convert to JPEGs and size for posting. In camera High noise reduction was 0:standard and the picture style was standard. Sorry about the other images.:o:oops: Still relatively new to this. Comments welcome. The only way to get above the glass was to shoot from where I was.

1/1000s !! Wow, that's amazing. I'm lucky to get 1/640s at ISO6400.
If you are shooting AV mode, try adding up to 1 stop in EC.

A couple tricks I learned from an SI photographer about shooting hockey...

Take a shot of the ice (preferably not just zambonied but this will still work fairly well) and use this for your custom white balance.
Next, defocus your lens and take a shot of the white ice in M mode. Adjust your exposure until you almost touch the right side of the histogram (take a shot, adjust, another, etc). This way you get bright whites without blowing out highlights.

This has worked very well for me.

Thanks for the tips! Can I just shoot the ice at an angle or do I need to be closer to 90 degrees? These two were converted to TIFFs, run through Neat Image and then made into JPEGs. I went to f3.2 for a few images at 1/1000 and I had to brighten in DPP. Everyone has so much information they are willing to share here. I really appreciate the help!:D
