I don't have any juicy rumors, but the rumor of the Sigma 70-200 OS makes me wonder why Sigma has not added OS to there long Teles like the 300/2.8 or the 500/4.5? You would think that it would easiest to add OS to the long primes. I'd give some serious look at a 300/2.8 OS.

Has any one ever read any explanation of why they haven't done it yet?

they seem to be more interested in telezooms, such as the new 50-500os. my guess is that they probably sell better

I'm guessing that they want to be able to compete against the OEM lenses on price/value. Saving a couple hundred dollars on a ~$1,000 lens will lure people into buying their lenses. Saving ~$500 on ~$4,000 may not be enough of a savings for people to go with the Sigma. It is simply a different game when you get up to those dollar amounts.

I'm guessing it also has to do with the fact that many people that are buying the longer tele's for sports don't see IS/OS as being a big enough advantage to warrant spending the extra money on.

Basically, the Sigma offerings give people a more affordable option for those that don't want to pay the extra for IS. Putting OS in those lenses doesn't set them apart from the OEM lenses.

I know you're both right. I would be nice to have an IS alternative to Canon, but the economics are what they are.
