That petapixel site drove my browser crazy with popups - I had to kill everything in task manager

Follow the links. Cafepress has some good ones, too. Google "What the Duck." You'll see some interesting things there.

One of my mates saw a photo of a guy on Facebook wearing a white shirt with a Canon 1D print on it. It had the neck strap going up and around the neck (extending to the back of the shirt). Thought it was pretty cool, myself. Apparently it was only available from Canon HK for a limited time though :(

Yes...............There are smart thieves out there that do target high end stuff. having Canon or Nikon on a camera is a target. For the everyday thief, no it doesn't matter. Me, I would still rather not advertise I have a name brand camera.

Mark

So taping the logo of your otherwise professional looking camera keep the bas guys away. I knew duct tape was powerful stuff but I didnt think it could make a 5D appear to be a point and shoot to a potential thief.

Yes it will lower the threat against you, it will not remove the threat. It's more than just taping over the name, it's doing away with that Canon or Nikon neck strap, hat, and bag. It's blending in more than the next guy, make that next guy the target. One on one it will do nothing, but in a crowded area with many people taking photos it will. Do you you stand out more or less with all that name branding stuff?

Mark

I have a big black camera with 7 inches of lens hanging off the front, taping a logo or changing strap isnt going to change things a bit.

Have to agree 100%. If you shoot ungripped with a 50 you might have a chance at being inconspicuous, but not with a 70-200 or even a 24-70

The only thing that "lowers the threat" is making the camera itself less accessible. Camera type can matter when accessibility is equal, but a thief will steal an accessible disposable camera just to stay in practice. Name brand is irrelevant--Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony--they are all fencible. If it's accessible, steal it now...dicker with the fence later.

What covering a camera with duct tape does is obscure easy judgment of its appearance. You can't fence an ugly junker, and a camera sufficiently covered with duct tape could be an ugly junker. Unless it's got a snazzy looking lens poking out of it.

Taping the logos is about as silly as putting a Porsche under a car cover w/ the thought the crooks will think it's a Pinto.

When I steal cameras I purposely look for ones with taped logos and non-stock neckstraps. It's usually those people that care enough to buy non-kit lenses, and that's where the money is at. :)
