So yesterday and the day before I was down in Tucson, AZ working on a Documentary about Vince Lombardi for HBO (his son lives there in the winter) and before we flew out back to Denver we had time to go visit a couple of really cool museums in the area. The first was a the Titan II Missile Museum. It was pretty cool going down into the control/launch room and seeing a Titan II in the lanch silo. The next thing on the rush around Tucson was a quick pass by the airplane grave yard out there. Pretty wierd stuff hanging out there in the desert.
Then we headed over to the Pima Air & Space Museum. WOW! is all that you can say after seeing that place. Almost 300 aircraft on display and a huge varity of types of planes. Bombers, fighters, recon, props, jets and everything else you can think of.
So in my mad rush around the place because we only had about an hour and a half to see it before our flight, I tried to shoot the little placards that named each aircraft. But somehow I missed a couple. This one in particular. Obviously it's somewhere after the B-29 and bfore the B-52, but what is it, besides being huge and really cool?

So, what is it's designation?

Thanks! This thing was so big that to get the wide shot I did get of it I couldn't even see the sign set right at the front left of the plane. There were too many really cool things to see there. I was actually running around from plane to plane to see them all. Of course I didn't get to see them all. There were whole hangers I never even got to see inside. The one I did walk through had a SR-71 Blackbird in it. That was really cool, but very hard to photograph.

LOL! Sorry, it was a last minute trip. I just didn't have time get in touch. How far from Tucson is. Chandler?

Yeah, Pima is an amazing place. It totally rocked my world. I was so sad to leave. It took two phone calls from my buddy to drag me out of there. I was walking out and shooting the whole way.

I guess those would be fine to post in this forum. Its the closests fit. I shot a few from the silo. It was a strange place to shoot, wierd lighting and even wierder tour guilds.
I'll post the images - took in another thread after I PP them.

I can be from my driveway to the Pima parking lot in just about two hours flat. Maybe quicker depending on Tucson traffic.

What's really amazing about this aircraft is that when the prototype flew, the main landing gear were single wheel / single tire! (Think Monster B-24 Gear)

They have one on display at the MotUSAF. It's ginormous...

The only reason tat you can get as clean of a shot with this aircraft at Pima is because of its massive size. It needs lots of room. It was amazing to just walk right under it. And even at 6' 2" I had no problems walking around it. Too cool!

The funny thing is, I didn't even notice the jet engines until this morning when I was PP the images. That's an amazing bird alright.

The B-36 was the predecessor for the B-47. She led the way for jet related long-range bombers. If you haven't yet, you need to get Strategic Air Command w/ Jimmy Stewart. Has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. He transitions from the B-36 into the B-47. Sorry for chasing that rabbit.:o
