Anyone know if Calumet matches prices? They are almost always at MSRP which is significantly higher than most places. With such reputable large volume camera stores like B&H and Adorama, how do they compete? They are a great store with knowledgeable staff and a large selection. And I am willing to pay extra occasionally since I do benefit from going to the store and trying equipment, but sometimes, the cash saved is just too much.

I found their price to be pretty competitive. Few of the lenses like 35L, 70-200 series and 5D2 have the same price as B&H. I just don't know about everything they carry.

Sometimes they are right on with B&H prices, sometimes not. I found that they will NOT match prices. I buy there unless there is a huge difference in price. Their customer service is stellar. they really go out of their way for customers.

As far as I know B&H have 1 retail outlet in NYC and Calumet has 8 retail locations with in-house rentals and in S.F. the 20x24 view camera for Polaroid contact prints. I think Calumet is higher priced because their online business is no where near as large as B&H and they have more retail floor space to pay for. The store in S.F. while not overly large is nothing to sneeze at and aside from Adolf Gassers is one of the few real photography stores left in S.F. with a decent inventory, a good stock of rental gear, and workshops and demos. I bought a 5x7 Zone VI split contrast enlarger used from the S.F. store and Richard ??? came to my house in South Santa Cruz (1.5 hour drive from S.F) to help me align it and get it producing images. B&H will not do that. I used to rent time on a Imacon 646 in S.F. where I could get fairly high quality scans for around $5 a scan renting the scanner for half a day. The shops were charging $75 minimum a scan. Of course this was before the huge shift to digital.
