What body do you have? Those are two rather different lenses so I am not sure how to advise you without knowing what you shoot, etc.

if you like the versatility you should go with the 24-105 plus it has that extra advantage of the IS

i got the 17-40 because it was one of the only ones i could afford at the time but in my opinion, when paired with a flash, made for a great event/party lens on a cropped body

i'm assuming you have a crop because of the sigma...so why not the 17-55mm 2.8?

I don't think I'd ever get the 17-40mm on a crop...i feel like there are other options that offer more...i'd love to replace my 28-135mm with the 24-105mm...but many think that's not wide enough for a crop camera

i was thinking about the 17-55 2.8 but i would like one L lense for the build quality and longevity of the lenses, thats number one for me plus i have two primes already if need low light pics. Just a good daytime lense, which lense between the two L lenses does better landscapes, thats what i need something wide but i dont know if 24mm is wide enough thats why i am considering the 17-40L, but im also thinking maybe the 24-105L might be wide enough, some thoughts please

if you are primarily using the lens for landscapes out of the two i'd opt for the 17-40mm...
