Made it up to Whistler today for the first two runs of the 4 man bobsled. Tough conditions in the rain and snow – time to dry out my gear. The speed of the sleds is amazing – once they leave the start the pick up speed so quickly.

USA team that is leading after 2 runs:

2nd place Canadian – so far:

German team - these guys were huge - tough to fit into the sled:

The Swiss were not so smooth at the start:

Latvia at speed:

Slovakia banking it into a corner:

Japanese sled high in a corner:

Great series.

Japanese sled getting it all wrong on their 2nd run:

What a monumental understatement. Good catch.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

These are great shots.....especially considering the speeds of those sleds.

Thanks - years of shooting motorcycle racing comes in handy sometimes :D.

I had an e-mail from someone asking what other sleds I have shots of - I have posted the rest of them here (external link).

What body and lens were used to catch these shots?

1DMkIIn with 70-200 F4L. All shots are in manual mode, ISO 500, f/4 with speeds from 1500 to 3000 depending on light, and no filters used... and camera was in a Optech rainsleeve (purchased through the POTN store) all day.

** Quick edit **

Browsing through, found another shot showing how close the spectators can get to the sleds - at this point the sleds are going 135 to 140 kph, according to the cameraman (with the Olympic host broadcaster) in the foreground.
