1D Mark II & Batteries.

Not sure if this has been posted or not but getting ready to order my Mark II & WOuld like to know if anyone has used the battieries other than Canon? Now for my 10D & 20D Ive used Lenmar and Canon and never had an problem but I would like to others 1D owners opinions.

My thoughts on the battery, would be to just spend the money and get the Canon brand. I have twice attempted to purchase generic batteries for my 1DMKII, both times the orders were cancelled by the vendor for recall issues with the batteries. And I have read to many threads about the generic batteries not fitting properly. I have no problems buying the generic for my 20D or Canon camcorder, but on a $3000+ camera. I'll get the real thing, and get the proper fit and dust and weather seal. Besides, the Canon battery lasts an incredibly loooooooong time. I had well over a thousand+ shots, and the battery indicator has never moved from a full charge prior to doing a refresh. Do a search on ebay, I have seen some good prices on new Canon OEM batteries there for around $100.

On such an expensive camera get the geniune article, IMHO. The batteries last for so many shots too, you only need perhaps one spare.

I appreciate anyone's effort to save money. However, I think tim hit the nail on the head here. I have two batteries for my 1dMKII and only once have I ever had to change batteries once in the day. I'm getting at least 1200-1300 shots per battery and this is with IS lenses working all day as well. I use only Canon batteries. Given what I paid for this camera, the battery cost is inconsequential in the grander scheme of things.

I also haven't read anything good on non Canon batteries for the 1DM2. I use two Canon batteries. If I shoot more then that my arms would fall off.

Well, Thanks for everyones commnets & I feel the same way considereing the the type of camera I'm about to purchase. Just had to ask in case there was a good alternative on the market. So far I've learned that if you go all Canon you won't be let down. Again thanks

You know what it seems to boil down to is this..

With the 10D/20D etc.. the batteries are just that.. batteries.. not made by Canon.. but contracted out.. and there are many many competent name brand battery manufactureres that can do the job just as well as Canon's subcontractor.

But.. With the 1D Bodies it's a totally different story.
Integral to the battery is part of the body itself.. and weather sealing, and latching.
Though the NIMH cells in the Canon batteries are still subbed out.. the battery itself is a part manufactured By Canon with it's integral weather sealing etc.

This is the part that these generics can't duplicate.

So true that's why this morning I ordered the 1dMark II with an extra Canon Battery. I just had to check my resources and you guys helped out greatly.
