Noiseware: who uses it?

It's a plug-in for photoshop found here (external link).

I've been playing with it on somebody else's machine. Wow. It even makes pics taken from a 50D shot at 3200 ISO look half way presentable.

I have Noise Ninja and this thing puts it to shame IMO. It also runs circles around the noise reduction features in LightRoom.

I'm actually thinking that shooting at 1600+ ISO is even possible - something I think the 50D is a dog at doing. :D

I have noiseware, but I don't use it too often. It doesn't really get rid of banding unfortunately, which is the type of noise that I tend to find most offensive.

It is definitely much better than the NR in LR2 (which just kills detail), I think they're supposed to be improving the NR in LR3 though.

Anyway, you should check out NIK dfine as well, I played with it for awhile and it's also very good.

Now I'm curious to try these out.

Thanks!

I hope I'm still alive by the time it comes out of beta. :D

I will. Thanks!

I rarely use noise reduction as it also reduces detail. I think I used it on my 7D ISO 20,000 shot, but I masked it to only reduce noise in the dark areas.

Never used any sort of noise reduction before. I enjoy grain lots of times.

I'd have though Bobby would ADD noise/grain, rather than take it away.

I do add grain. Less than I used to though! I'm starting to even out a bit now :p

I use it; it is good. I have Nik Dfine and Noiseware, i use Dfine first and if I don't care for the result I run it through noiseware.

I use Noiseware and it does an excellent job. That said, after playing around with LR3 beta and its enhanced noise handling, I can imagine NW sitting idle.

I would say that noise reduction software can be like photoshot actions. When used full throttle, it just looks terrible. When I notice that noise software has been used, it always looks terrible. Definitely don't try to make an ISO6400 shot noise free and you'll probably be fine :)

That's one of the reasons I like Nik Dfine. It applies the noise reduction as a seperate layer, so you can fade it, blend it, sandwich it... Etc. Definitely not full throttle though. No amount of sharpening can make it look natural at full throttle.

I have the PS plug-in and I like it. Like mentioned by others here, it's best to "Tweak" it yourself and not rely on the default settings or else the NR is usually to strong.
