Hi Everyone,
Is it me or does the 20D have a problem with numbering files? When ever i download my images to PC i allways seem to have one folder missing,i get 15,16,18,19 and all the images that corespond to the file numbers from 1 to 100 but just seem to loose one file everytime.Anyone else notice this or can help with some info.

Mine doesn't do that, and to me the image numbers are irrelevant. Make sure yours isn't losing photos, then start using something like DIM from http://alanlight.com (external link) to download and rename the files from your card via a card reader.

This isn't the first time I've seen this sort of thing happen to 20D's.

On one camera I've seen two folders created.....102 and 103, except 102 was left empty and 103 has filled up then a few pictures were put into 102.

On another 20D the camera would make spare folders that are left empty...whats going on????

You will see this if you delete any pics on the card before you download to the computer, the camera has already used that file number so it will not use it again.

I took a series of pics over the weekend and the first two of the batch are numbered IMG_4890 and ING_4892, I must have deleted number 4891 in the camera.

BTW this is with a 300D so I am assuming that the 20D works the same

Slightly OT but I finally got over 5000 pics in total this weekend WHOO-HOO

Sorry about the confusion but I meant 5000 in total, not over the weekend. I shot about 150 on saturday and about another 100 or so on Sunday.

The most shots I have done in one day was about 350-400

I got it just before Christmas, but with work and family commitments I only really get to use it on a weekend.

I wouldn't worry about the amount of pics you have taken, just go out and enjoy the camera, I think you will actually slow down with time when the novelty of the new toy wears off

I also suspect that images were deleted on the camera.

Other than that, set the counter to 'continuous' counting.
Makes it easier to me to keep track of images taken.

Best regards,
Andy
