not blown away or totally disappointed with the results, either. i set the camera on a tripod, used autofocus on the bulb to lock then switched to mf and did bursts. any suggestions on how to do this shot better, or processing that might make this 'pop' a little more? any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

the smoke seems a little 'soft' to me, if that's even possible. thoughts on these two?

It's nice to know that my ineptitude in the darkroom transfers over to the digital world...

thanks! i think i like the middle shot myself best. i just completely guessed on the exposure - i figured id have to go through a few bulbs and tinker, but i got it pretty decently first try. haha.

i showed it to a friend who wouldn't believe that it wasn't photoshopped, so i grabbed my camera and showed him the exposure right on the LCD. haha. i guess i will take that as a compliment, sort of. :)

cool idea nice shot. tho i like the curlsin the first shot the smoke does seem 'soft' , i like the colorversion better. have you tried cranking up the 'clarity' bar in raw? i think it would give more definition to the smoke.

the clarity bar had little effect on the smoke - it mostly just brought in a little defintion around the blown out filament. surprisingly, the color temp had the greatest effect on the smoke.
