Well, as a Pro tog he was saying that any outdoors shots he uses a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action i.e. no wheel or hooves blur - a record shot and as such he uses the flash to freeze the indoors ones as well because "that is what the clients want" but said that if he was taking for himself he would try for some motion blur. Later on I listened while he spoke to a prospective buyer (of prints) and said the same but described his indoors ones as 'action shots' but there was no action because he had used the flash.....a slightly contradictory statement. I will have a look at his website later to see what he posts because on the viewing station he had setup those indoor shots were..........IMO not right, so I wonder how he will PP them???
Perhaps it is just me but horses are all about movement (like all animals) and yes I am sure the owners like to see some that are "static" freezes to check for the gait etc but some movement in the hooves is nice to me. Most if not all such carriage images I have seen are 'static' action!
These are some I took at Hickstead in 2008
I agree with everyone else, I would much prefer some blur it brings them to life. Do you go to lots of Equine events....one of my many jobs in my youth was working on a stud farm for Welsh Cobs which were shown in hand.
Great shot, would have been interesting with some tomato ketchup
