I really was missing a quality wide lens , just got this ...and boy this is wow !
opens up a whole new world for me ...
quite sharp even wide open ...worth all the praise it gets. some quick shots i took.

im on a learning curve using wide angles , the widest i use is the 24-70 ..and im on crop.

This lens just might replace my 24-70 as a walkaround !!!

I have that lens too. It's a great lens, but I don't use it quite often.
I think it's too wide for a walk around lens. Only in NY I shot with it 50% of the time.

I am yearning for this lens to use on my upcoming trip to China. The f/2.8 aperture would make it an excellent low light glass.

However, I have and I absolutely love the 12-24mm f/4 Tokina and, in the interest of saving money for my trip, I am going to bite the bullet and stay with the f/4.

Since you are new to UWA lenses, let me share a few things with you which you may or may not be aware of...

1. When shooting landscapes with the UWA, I have found that including a really prominent foreground object such as a rock or a plant of some type really enhances the image by providing a sense of proportion and leading the viewers eye into the image

2. When shooting a full body shot of a person, shooting from a bit lower angle will reduce the distortion which makes the top of the person's body look much larger than the legs and feet. Shooting from eye level causes the distortion since the top of the body is much closer than the lower portion.

3. UWA lenses are very sensitive to the camera looking up or down and will produce distortion. Having the sensor close to perpendicular to the ground or floor reduces the tendency to distort.

I hope that you are not offended by these simplistic hints. If you are already aware of them. please excuse me.

This doesn't make sense.....10-22 and 17-40L is totally different lens. Unless you are comparing Crop + 10-22 and FF + 17-40L.....

Such a good lens. I'm really happy I have one in my bag.

It'd be fun to play with an UWA. The widest I've shot with was 18mm. Have fun with your new purchase!

Got one of those about a month ago and just LOVE IT!
Now I just want to go to the beach to test its power on sunset/sunrise HDR :D

Such a great lens. If I was still on a crop, I would have one for sure.

Congrats! This is a great lens, but replacing the 24-70 might with it might be a bit too extreme... It's always in my bag in case if i needed that extra angle of view...

Enjoy the new perspective using this lens!! :)

Wow looks like a really cool lens. Seems like your having a blast with it. I too thought my 16-35L was going to replace my 24-70L when i first got it for my 5D-2. I soon found out thats not the case. Have fun, its still a new and fun purchase. But watch how eventually u will be running back to the 24-70 and appreciating it again. Theres just no replacing that lens...Its the best!!!
