No, but raised together. 2 years old, surrendered to the shelter because their family had a baby, and the dogs were 'too much' to handle.

Cat, talk to Amy over on FB about the shar pei thing...they've got an oil in their coat that is apparently different than a lot of the other dogs? One of the pups we were looking at before we got Boo had sp in her and omg I've never itched so bad for so long in my LIFE. Needless to say, we had to cross her name off our list. She was a pitty mix too. But anyway, Amy is the one who explained it to me.

This little guy looked like our Levi, so we named him Strauss.

aww. You know, I read things about owner surrenders all the time. Foreclosures and things...especially in this economy, can't be helped. Tragic happenings when a pet has to go & that makes me sad. But this is one of the reasons I just don't understand. You'd think when people adopt dogs that they'd think "hey, I'm of child bearing age...it could happen...should I take on this responsibility"...instead of just giving them up.

More puppy cuteness (can you take any more?)

Strauss and Wrangler, happy to be out of the shelter. (missed focus, but oh well)

I read that they require intensive care. Baths once a week. Daily brushings (even though their hair is short). Top nutrition etc...plus I read that they aren't for newbie dog owners. I've always loved how they look.

Sometimes I wonder, we had such trouble adapting to a springer spaniel (which is supposed to be an easy dog for a newb) what would have happened if we'd gone with our wants. Rhodesian Ridgeback (who TOTALLY wasn't a dog for newbs).:lol:

Oh that is interesting! Lorraine broke out in hives just after we got Kenji from the first shelter. Maybe she isn't the right person to foster him, LOL!

Yep.
I got a call today from someone who had contacted me several months ago. This is the conversation:

Her: Hi, this is K. I have a situation.
Me: Yes?
Her: Remember when I called you last November looking for a dog for my sister for Christmas and you said no? Well, we did get them one, and now my brother in law hates it and said that they have to get rid of it, and it's coming back to me and I can't keep it.
Me: And that's why we don't adopt dogs out to someone to give as a 'gift'.
Her: So, can you take it?
Me: Sorry, we just took in 14 dogs in the last 2 days that were scheduled to be put down. We are completely full, and can't take in any more right now. You're going to have to take on the responsibility of either keeping the dog, or finding it a home. I'm sorry.

*sigh*

I think you guys have done fabulously with your dogs.
Do you ever wonder how different your lives would be if you'd gotten Hale first?

At the local zoo yesterday there was this bull I've known for at least 12 years. The whole time I've never seen him anywhere near the fence of his enclosure, always in the middle and looking rather pissed off. There is a sign that says not to pet him and mesh wire on the lover fencing where the kids would be.

As soon as he saw my guys he came over and rubbed along the fence and let them all pet and scratch him, it was amazing.

Caitlin is more stable today and getting nutrients through a tube. She is doing better as often is the case when she is admitted. The dangerous part is she makes herself so sick that when she goes in giving her food does not help until she is stable. It is a dangerous situation.
I am okay, on going stuff I was following up on. Thanks for asking.

Glad Caitlin is stable for now. Hope she improves soon.

I think it's impossible for us to take a wee break and relax for a couple days. We just got back from CA last night, and Lorraine and I jumped back in the van today, and did shelter runs.
We came back with 8 dogs.

Look at little Kenji. He's 3 months old.

All of the new pups are adorable.

Jim -- nice job on the tools, and hope you get at least 5 hours of sleep tonight.

Hi everyone. Night Everyone. Worked a 10 hour day (on the clock, but actually started working when I left house at 0815 - turned in a military ID at the base, then asked them for help with getting photos and info on how to read military ID) - I am beat - soo off to bed for me.

Bad news: bad sinus infection & pink eye
Good news: got antibiotics
Bad news: they are unsure if the horrible eye pain/vision problems are related
Good news: get to wait until all the infections are gone before further treatment (if necc)
Bad news: if it's not the infections, the options are very scary
Good news: got pain pills
[/end TD]

oh and I forgot...bad news...I HAVE to use the neti pot at least once (she's hoping 2x) a day

LOL!! You are so right. I can't make a pie crust to save my life actually.

Hmmm Deb, I don't use aperture so I don't know where they put the upload plugin. Can't you just download the current version and install it as an update?

Otherwise, at the top toolbar (where the magnifying glass is) type the name of the plug in and it will show you were it is. Then come back here and tell me before you do anything.

Have fun at the races!

thanks :) I did. Now we're crossing our fingers that that's all it is.

GAHHH!! That is so sick!! But for you, I will photograph the neti pot carnage :lol:

Who's the giant one in the last photo?

Wow! Sorry you've got crud.
