Race Car questions:

Any knowledge I have about racing comes from Speed Racer and Pixar's Cars

In Cars the main car blows a tire and then gets a yellow flag and all the other cars have to drive slow. Is that real? Why? Is it like a nfl time out??

My second question is, if a car could do everything the Mach 5 did (Speed Racer) would it be a legal for regular racing or are there certain qualifications?

My third question is, would someone like to come over and watch an NON cartoon with me??

Depends on the racing catagory....in the US with NASCAR & ovals, yes...but in other racing catagories...you blow a tyre (tire), tough crap, limp the car back to get a new set of wheels...

Every racing category has a wonderful set of rules and regulation - that people try to exploit to the max, you can basically race anything as long as it abides by the rules and regulations.

do you have good popcorn to go with the NON cartoon?

When a car has a flat tire, there is often pieces of debris that come off the car...at 200 mph that would make for a very dangerous situation for the other cars, so they wave a yellow flag which slows the field to a controlled speed and allows for safe clean up of the track. When the debris is clear, the green flag is put out and racing resumes.

The red flag is used in those situations where continuing to have the cars moving is simply too dangerous. When the red flag is out, the cars must stop and do nothing until such time as the track is restored to a safe condition. Often used when it rains. Slick tires on wet pavement is not a pretty combination.

As for the car being legal....I don't know of any form of racing beyond the cartoon world where that would be legal. All forms of racing have pretty clear cut rules and regulations.

Most flags used in racing are standard across all series....there are a few that are series specific. But they are the exception and not the rule.

Green flag.....the race is on. Track is clear.
Yellow flag....caution, slow down....assume the speed of the safety car. (The lone exception here is that on some road courses, there is what is known as a local yellow. It is only displayed in one area of the track and is usually used in the event of a very temporary event that doesn't really necessitate slowing the race on the entire track)
Red flad....race and all race activity stopped until track is safe.
Black flag.....shown to one specific car at a time for some infraction of the rules. Car must enter the pit area immediately to serve the penalty or the scoring on the car will be stopped and the car disqualified.
Blue flag.....move over....displayed to slower competitors to warn them that they are being overtaken by a much faster car.
Checker flag....the race is over.

Got any good non-cartoon? Most of my collection is animated.

When you process to a certain point the eyes take on the characteristics of a doll....glassy and lifeless. They just have that sensation that the lids will blink in unison and they model will say "Ma-ma". I don't have a better explanation, but I think that is what a few of us have been trying to tell you right along. The shots are good, but the eyes get a little creepy looking.

You mean like drive up on the track fence, kick in the hydraulic jacks, flip over the bad guy, land on it's wheels, deploy the two large saw blades and chop up the car in front, then pop up the bullet proof deflector to stop the other drivers from shooting the driver and with the help of Racer-X win the race. Stuff like that?

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

In most situation, the yellow flag is thrown if the car on the track represents a hazard to the others. Some of the tracks in NASCAR racing are up to 2 1/2 miles long, and a flat tire means a car might have to travel a very long way at significantly reduced speeds. With the other cars going 200 mph or so, it's a dangerous situation.

If a car can get off the track quickly, they might not throw the yellow.

That would be a 2011 Lexus.

It's a style preference. Some might argue they like it as it gives the photo a haunting quality (in the good sense).
