Neil, I rescued this 18 month old lab last Friday. She'd never been to the vet. Is in heat (although we're through the "worst" of it, if you know what I mean). She lived most of her life in a crate.

I recently found out that they had chained her to a tree when she was a pup and she broke her leg. Again, no vet care whatsoever. I had her to the vet first thing last Saturday. She's had her first round of shots and is scheduled for surgery.

My commitment to her was to rescue her from that horrible situation - and then go from there. I recently came to realize that she is here forever. And it's a wonderful thing. :D

Keep this up and you're going to lose your "Meany Head" moniker for good. Not that that's a bad thing...

I didn't know about her leg. :( That's awful. Did it heal ok?

Chris - great news on Grace's new name. Again, I am sorry about how she was treated as a youngster. Does the vet need to fix her leg in addition to getting spade or did the leg heal properly on its own?

Thanks Heather. There is nothing that is apparent with her leg. I found out from a relative of the people who had her. They thought she walked with a limp. I've never seen that. And I've never seen her favor it. If it was when she was really young, I suspect it was a "green" break or whatever they call it and it healed on its own. In any case, there's nothing to be done with it now. She seems fine.

And I guess it's only fitting...as the reason Maggie was able to come to live with me because HWAC thought she "walked funny." So Gracie's in good company. :D Maggie outruns EVERY dog at the dog park. Funny or not.

I just learned this a couple of days ago. The ___________ I adopted her from didn't bother to tell me.

:lol: I settled on it yesterday afternoon, but I wanted to have her "coming out" party with a new pic. And I was at a banquet and didn't get home until late. They were both tired (as was I) and pics weren't happening. I took this one a few minutes ago.

I'm so happy for you guys!

Geez...making me cry. She looks so happy.

I asked you on FB but I'll ask here too...where'd you get that ball? Hale loves them and we can't find them around here anywhere.

poor baby. She looks good. Considering what we went through with Hale's broken leg, I'm completely AMAZED that she's grown normally. Does she move properly?

Glad Gracie is not bothered by it. She is in a great home now. The only question is how is Kona going to react to is Girlfriend having a sister, and that Maggie is more interested in playing with Grace, rather than him.

She is AMAZINGLY well-adjusted. She is so wonderful I can't even believe it. Except for the messy business that's now done (YAY!) she has been SO easy. She doesn't have any oddities or neurotic behaviors that I can see at all. She is so happy. And appreciates everything - especially sleeping on my bed and on the couch. It's like she's died and gone to heaven.

I can't see any indication that there is anything wrong with her leg. Had they not told me I probably never would have known.

Thanks. No real story. I am Graced to have her in my life. She is a blessing.

And I've always loved that name. And it will be a constant reminder of how lucky I am that she came to live with Maggie and me.

that is so wonderful...it's really (imo) the true meaning of "rescue" I really am all choked up.

that's amazing. Because it broke, just be aware that she'll need to keep her weight normal & our vet told us that glucosamine while she is young will help her (because they will get arthritis in any breakages). We buy it in bulk from costco or costco.com I give it to both the dogs.

Thanks. No real story. I am Graced to have her in my life. She is a blessing.

awww I LOVE it.

when Maggie ignored him to play with Amika, he was so overwhelmed with all the other dogs that his response back then was to hang on the fringes. Now that he's older and much more confident, I'm expecting him to be in dog heaven. Though he may try to get btw Gracie and Maggie...because he's always done that with whoever she's around.

That is a terrible story with a great ending. Why would anyone keep a dog or any other animal for that matter for 18 months simply to torment it. I can understand all sorts of aberrant behavior but this is just beyond belief.
