This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #263".

This contest ends at 3:00pm EST Wednesday March 3rd 2010

---------------
With the way some of the edits have progressed in the last few contests, let's change this one up a little:

I'll be judging this contest with CREATIVITY as the only criteria - please don't limit your imagination ;)

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

took a long walk off a short pier with this one ...

Two levels of manipulation (after crop) mixed with difference:
Level 1:
color negative curve adjustment, B/W modifying color intensity and balance, underwater filter high
Level 2:
obtain mask from Level 1, use curves and mask to modify original image within masked region

blend Level 1 and Level 2 with difference (mix of negative and positive and some extra voodoo mojo)

Used this tool to make a couple of mosaics, one with borders and one without.

Auto levels, saturation (+10%), unsharp mask (75%, 0.75pix) on borderless mosaic.
Auto levels, saturation (+10%), Shadows+Highlights (25,10), unsharp mask (75%, 0.75pix) on polaroid-style mosaic.
Select background of polaroid-style mosaic, invert selection and paste over borderless mosaic.

Well - I hope everyone had a little fun with Before & After #262.

I don't have to tell everyone what a difficult task it is to pick the image I think is the most creative - they are all really fantastic.

Kolor-Pikker - Great poster work, I had to google the meaning of lulz

jetcode I think if Monty Python was still in production that they would like your workup. It has a nice 3D effect.

FstopMiami123 - I really love the spaceships, I've seen similar spaceships firing a laser - movie poster stuff - I think you could of influenced some of the other enteries.

sparkin - Love the Polaroid technique. Great presentation of the mosaics and I think it's really well used in this image.

sandstrom - I love the dinosaur and especially the shadow work - really well done.

Lore - The newspaper effect is great - I especially like the attention to detail with the date. Was I the only one trying to read the small print of the article? I even went to the News & Observer website to try to find the article.

NigelD - Nice balance to your workup - Great use of the dolphins and the "text balloons" are a great touch that I think other competitors in the Before & After series will use in future creativity workups.

So this competition is going to the Press - Lore takes the reigns for the next Before & After, Congratulations.

Well done everyone and lets give jetcode a round of applause also.

In an effort to get a few more eyeballs onto the Before & After threads I bumped this thread this morning. Maybe that's something to keep in mind for future go-rounds if the thread does not have any activity for 24 hrs - any thoughts on bumping.

Thanks I removed the post though ( I do that a lot around POTN ) because it really doesn't stack up against the more creative collage offerings which means I need to dig a little deeper in the creativity department next time around!

Game on!
