I'm looking for 1gb or 512mb flash drives for around $5 each or less to send photos to my clients on.

I found some 1gb drives at Buy.com for $5 each, but they also charge $5 each for shipping! So when I added 5 to my cart, it showed $25 in shipping charges!

I find some cheap ones with Google shopping search but when I get to the website they are not available.

Does anyone know who might sell them dirt cheap? I don't need anything fancy, I just get tired of my CD's & DVD's not working for my clients.

One thing to think about and consider is to get custom made flash drives with your logo on it. I am sure that it would cost more but would give a better presentation to the viewer instead of seeking "sandisk" or "kingston" or what ever brand you were using.

Take a look at Microcenter (external link). I have bought a lot from them and they're pretty cheap.

Brian @ Adconcepts has done wonders for us at work.. I can't tell you how many thousands of these we have purchased over the years.
Go here

And search for
MPAFD-FOQBQ for the 1 gig
GPAFC-FOQBP for the 512 meg

I don't know prices.. they're handled by another dept. I just know they work (I'm the QA guy)

I've thought about custom flash drives, but of course they are pricey. I need to suck it up and just spend some money for my customers. I was thinking this time around I would get some stickers made depending on what physical size drives I find.

How about these:

Honestly, though, that is a lot of money compared to a CD-R or DVD-R. Plus, disks are permanent. Flash drives can be erased.

And I have found that CD/DVDs corrupt files as short as 2 months (even in ideal storage conditions) in my own experience, not to mention that when you purchase name brand CDs such as Memorex, Sony, or Verbatim that as many as 5 out of 10 discs are already screwed up before being burned in the first place. Even the gold archival discs are not even fail safe really.

Interestingly enough, I have 10 year old CDs with no issues, and I have not had a "coaster" in about 4-5 years. I burn about 200 CDs per year, so I guess I am not too heavy a user. 5/10 sounds pretty ridiculous, though.

I have only been backing up on discs since 2006, only had 3 or 4 discs that I have burned actually show corrupt files since being burned, and thankfully none of those were anything "important". Before I switched to DVDs I used CD's which I probably had 200-300 of before 2008 when I began to go through all of the CDs to burn them onto DVDs to reduce the number of discs I had, thats when I found 2 of the corrupt files.

I would hate to think that I am the only one having issues with discs. But like I said, I get halfway through doing the CD or DVD then the computer spits it out and says there was a disc error (on various XP and Mac computers/OS's) Verbatims having the least errors and the Best Buy store brand and Sony having the most.

I got a lot of that back in the 90s, but I seriously have not had a bad disc in years. I use it all the time at work to make install and driver disks and they all just work. I don't even remember what brand as I rarely pay attention.

I'm not really worried about long term storage, since I am shooting races I just need to get my customers photos for their websites & for sponsors. After each season the photos aren't really needed anymore. But I have burned discs recently and shipped them to find out they couldn't access any of the files. I burn them using Nero 9 on my Vista PC, check it on my Vista laptop and then at work on my XP PC and found all the files uncorrupted. Then my customer requests a new disc because they can't read it.

I would check out Taiyo Yuden DVDs if I were you. I have used hundreds of them without any issues. They both burn well and store well.

OP > How are you burning them with Nero 9? I have found many burn issues are due to the burner sometimes. Many laptop burners are complete crap from my experience. I would recommend getting a decent external burner and you should have less issues.

The branded flashdrives are a pretty cool, albeit more expensive idea.
