I recently paid a visit to Las Vegas. My room had quite a view and gave me a photo opp of this photo. I think it's interesting maybe could be catagorized as abstract (photoart)......just would like some opinions on what others think of it more then how I should set up my camera. This picture was taken with a "out of the box" mind set and I blew off all rules...ahh I mean 2 photos...

The first one at least shows that aliens do live in high-rises, just as I expected... :)
It's not bad, but not really good, but it is a little interesting.

The second shot is a lot more interesting, not a wall hanger by any stretch, but it definitely has some abstract going on.
What you could do with it, I have no idea. heh

The most I could say is that I hope it was enjoyable for you in your stay there, because it is definitely different, and worth a 'snapshot', but not worth a whole lot more than that, I'm afraid.
I'd categorize it as a, "abstract snapshot". :)

I'm sorry I can't give it more due credit though, it is what it is.

Not a wall hanger? Just a snapshot? I just sold one of my abstracted "snapshots" this afternoon framed for 250.00 buck-a-roonies...I guess this is why art can be so subjective....Thanks for your opinion anyway.

Good on ya, although I find the compositions odd.Everything in art is subjective, there is always somebody looking for"it"

I dig it, especially the second one.

If you want to heighten the abstractness, I'd go a step further and correct the lens distortion -- barrel distortion is perceptible especially when there is a straight line running alongside the edge of the frame.

Also, see what happens if you distort the image so that the facade looks as if it's taken head-on (what architects call 'elevation' - an idealized projection of a vertical face of a structure sans perspective).

It reminds me of the U.S. flag painting by Jasper Johns, without the perspective, even more so.

If it's in focus, it's pornography, if it's out of focus, it's art.

I like them both and bet you could have some fun with lens distortion changing angles. The 1st one has consistent diagonals.

Heh, interesting. Based on my slight art education, I can see how these would sell, especially the second one. Lens distortion is something to watch out for in architecture etc, anything with straight lines, but here if anything it adds to the composition.

Well, that just goes to show you, there's one born every minute, a photography, that is. heheh
Really, I'm glad you sold it, and I still stand by my thoughts, but I'm glad I was wrong in this case. :)
I hope you sell the other also.:D
