whats a good cheap manual flash?

i currently have a canon 420ex. i like it on my Rebel but its full auto. for doing some product and portrait shots i would like to get a cheap wireless trigger unit but would need a flash i can adjust manually.

are there any good cheap flashes out there? i don't need any fancy metering just a basic unit i can use for remote trigger

Yn-460 is about as cheap as it gets. Just takes a while to receive them.

Edit: You should get the YN-460 MkII though, its faster to recycle and more powerful. It also is $20 more or so.

Im going to have to say the Vivitar 285HV's! I absolutely love mine to death!
Im using some "Pure" brand rechargeable batteries for them, So far 450 shots on this charge lol

Yea, they ship them from China or wherever. Usually takes about 2 weeks or so.

wow quite the consensus on the YN 460II , ebay looks to be bout $56 not too bad, that vivitar looks familiar i think that was recommended back when i was researching flashes last year. but its like $90 new

think ill just be saving my money for a YN 460II for my needs. thanks everyone.

I haven't seen or used the YN-460 II. From the ads, it looks like you can't zoom the flash head. The Guide Number is 38. No provision for battery pack that I could see. Maybe I am wrong, but if cheep is what you are looking for, this may be for you. I have used the Canon 540EZ for several years with good results.

• Manual power adjustment to 1/128th
  
• Flash head zoom adjustment for area coverage
  
• Guide Number 54 at 105mm; 38 at 80mm
  
• Battery pack provision (I use the pack sold by flashzebra.com)

for the price it can't be beat.

no it's not a 580 EX2 - but it only $60 bucks.

I bought the flash and the RF-602 triggers on ebay - all items very well built and work perfectly.
