These pictures aren't mine... but does anybody else think that these pictures (especially at f2.8 ) are rather soft?

Don't quite see the point in the lens at the moment

What do you think?

We know the 70-200 isn't mainly used for just action shots, but that's what I would like to see samples of, especially in darker conditions.

I think they need to let someone who knows what they are doing take the pictures.

What do you mean by that? The photos were properly exposed and focused with a plenty high enough shutter speed at low ISO... I don't see any reason for the photo's from a 1DIII to be soft because of the user?

My 7D will set everything correct on dummy mode, that doesn't mean it can't be shot better.

A friend of mine tested the new lens at the Olympics. Obviously a preproduction model but the results were stellar. He got sharp results even at 1/8 second handheld.

Thanks for stopping in and having a look.
Prints of my work are available for purchase. Please contact me offline or thru PM if you are interested.

Seems to me a lot of people (at Canon Rumours) are dismissing the lens based on these shots.

We all know even the best lens in the world can take terrible photos... and I will throw in the (likely slight) possibility there is something wrong with the lens/camera here.

Of course the current 70-200 owners must want this lens to fail and are super keen on trashing it. Test must have been done by a noink who owns a current Canon 70-200! ;) :p :p

anyone know the release date? When will this lens be available for purchase? B&H doesn't have it listed for pre-order which they usually do when the release is imminent.

Canon 7D, Canon 1D Mark IV, Canon 24-105L f/4, Canon 35L 1.4, Canon 200L f/2.8, Canon 70-200L II IS f/2.8, Canon 300L f/2.8IS, 580ex Flash, 430ex Flash, 1.4X Converter. Bunch of other crap! I want the new 500mmL and the 200L f/2.0

Maybe we can look forward to more "I just spent big bucks and my 70-200 is soft" threads. The old is a great lens, and the new one will be as well.
