First off, let me say that I am not a bird photographer and I know these photos are not good. But...this owl is nesting in a red tailed hawk nest that is very high up in a tree at the edge of my yard.
Since I've read that it is kind of unusual to see them, I wanted to share. She has been setting for about 2 weeks now.
Last year I got to see 2 baby hawks learn to fly and hunt. At first I was really disappointed that the hawks didn't come back, but I think it will be fun to see the baby owls before they leave.

Ours has just recently hatched 2 babies and they grew REALLY fast over the past week or so. Right now Mom sits on another branch because there's no more room in the raided Osprey nest. Look for a light brown round face with no horns, and sooner than later (provided there is lots of food around) they'll be hopping around the nest..... We actually had a Peregrine Falcon hovering over the nest the other day and dive-bombing Mom every once in awhile. Pretty cool experience!

It's easy to grin..... when your ship's come in...... AND you've got the stock market beat...... But a man worthwhile...... is a man who can smile...... when his shorts aren't too tight in the seat.

What a treat for you to be able to watch that nest. Enjoy it.

Wish I had one in my backyard. And I think the pictures are pretty darn good. The one thing I would suggest is to move the owl directly out of the center of the picture.

Wow...thats cool, Im very jealous. I dont think i would go to work!

The perch in the second illustrates that they are all feathers. Have you seen the mate...do they vocalize?

Thanks for all the comments.
To Mom...I did not crop and didn't shoot for composition. My camera is on the tripod and I am using the center focus point. Just trying to get decent exposure on the bird.
Raptorman....I have not seen the mate. I have heard her/him hooting at night, though. Now that I am over the shock of not having the hawks back, I'm getting excited about the owlets.
