OK, I know this question has been beaten to death...but I have this Sr. client that wants to know how much I'd charge her for the 60 images that she has to choose from to build her print package, rather than buying the prints that she gets with any given package.

What would you do?...a straight fee per image..which is going to get expensive if I tell her Mom $50 each....or say 10 for X dollars....20 for X dollars...etc...it's tough to nail this down, but want to make as simple as possible.

Right now I offer customers who buy the package prints those same images on a CD....but this customer wants to skip buying the prints and just buy digital?

Typically I look at what I need to profit from each client.

i would give her half price but put some kind of little thing on the bottom.
i'll find an example on google.
I DO NOT CLAIM THIS IMAGE AS MY OWN. I USED GOOGLE TO FIND AN EXAMPLE.

^see how he has a little title down in the corner? i would do that.
but dont make the discount something crazy like..half off.
encourage them to buy prints. :D (that goes without saying)

Some may not like this answer, but if a couple wants a cd of images for their wedding, i charge the following schedule:
50 photos $750
75 photos $975
100 photos $1295.00
This is in addition to any packages i have and the basic photo location, which is in its own is several hundred dollars. My pricing does not encourage people to do what your gal wants to do. But if they want it bad enough, i will give them limited usuage for personal reasons.

Charge what you would for prints and add 25 or 50%. We don't need to get excessively greedy here.

If you charge $10 per print x 60 = $600 x 50%= $900.00 Above what I charge. $15 per print x 60 =$900 x 50%= $1350

Sounds like you are right on... same track...different song.

They can use them for personal reasons, but can not sell them or use them in any way commercially. Pretty standard.

I think once they see the price tag, they'll sit down and pick out the prints from the proofs like originally planned....and f they say they only want to buy 20 digital images then the prices will be higher per image than if they buy all 60...that's a given.

I would have that in writing before they sit down.

Yeah, in this case it's not a concern she'll use them for anything but personal use.

Don't be surprised if they write you a check for $900.00 for 60 images at $10. per image. I have long ago stopped trying to guess what people will do. They surprise me nearly every time.

Good luck.
