All of a sudden, my 7D now writes file names that start with "_MG_" instead of "IMG_". Weird. Anyone has seen this before, and knows how to change it back?

This automatically happens (to make it easier later) to identify files that have been recorded with the aRGB (Adobe RGB) Colour Space.

You (or someone else) must've set it to that in the camera.

The Adobe RGB Colour space had a wider/deeper gamut or colour range than the sRGB, but unless you work for a newspaper/other publication that relies on Adobe RGB, sRGB should suit your needs. That said, if you're willing to, there isnt anything really stopping you for keeping it how it is.

To revert back to sRGB, dig through the 'red' portions of the 7D menu and you should find 'Colour Space' or something like it. Set this to sRGB and your filenames will return to IMG_xxxx.JPG/CR2. I would give you more accurate directions but I dont have the camera handy.

Thank you! I did change the color space to Adobe RGB to do some tests, but I did not realize that the file name would change to reflect this. There is indeed a small note at the bottom of p. 82 in the manual that says this. I just did not pay attention to it. Now I know.

That was easy (and quick) to resolve. Many thanks!
