This one, I'm really pleased with.

I thought the fly was drinking...but oddly enough, the liquid was coming out of its mouth. So I'm not too sure now.

Any bug experts out there, please enlighten me!

I like this shot, especially your narrow DOF. Really brings the focus to the bubble.

Not an insect expert so can't help in that respect.

Wow. Nice! Is this with just the 100mm or with extension tubes added?

its believed bubble blowing has something to do with aiding digestion. Haven't seen a bubble that big myself.

Thanks Chris. This is actually 3 shots stacked, but I took 11 shots in total! Then, in PP, I realised that the fly was sort of, "rising and lowering" on it's legs as the bubble got bigger, so I only had three frames that were similar enough to stack. Otherwise, I'd have achieved a wider DoF.

Yep, 100mm macro plus all three tubes = 2:1 mag, shot in RAW, and then I cropped down so this is about 3:1.

Thanks for that Toby. It certainly makes more sense than thinking the fly was exuding water!

Ah, that's even better, hadn't even realised it was a stack. I guess with those tubes and mag on the 100mm it's a fine DOF. Are you shooting with the lens wide open and no flash ?

Nice shot, but that's just gross. Not only do flies not wipe their feet, but they blow huge luuggi's. :)

Full manual all round, f/4, 1/100s, flash at full power through my giant home-made snoot!
And yep, even at f/4, the DoF was so shallow, that the fly's front left foot was blurred compared with where it joined the body compared with the nearest part of the bubble compared with the top of the bubble!
Crazy thin, considering it's not the MP-E65 I was using, but just the 100mm macro plus ext.tubes!

I agree! Disgusting isn't it...
Now I'll be on the lookout for a fly walking in a turd and then landing on someone's food especially for you!
;)
