Hi,

I have been trying to sell a camera on ebay using "BUY IT NOW". Looks like this thing attracts more scammer, right? Anyway, first one was a lady (with 229 positive feedbacks) and she said to avoid shipping fee she'd use her own FedEX or UPS account and send me the shipping label. She was asking me if I could do it the same day and she made the payment. Well, I was going to go ahead but for some reaosn after a couple of messages I didn't get any other message and Paypal sent me a message saying buyer has filed a case that she didn't authorize this transaction. OK. I refunded the money and sent a harsh e-mail because I thought she simply changed her mind and instead of contacting me for cancellation she just contaced Paypal and told them a different story. Anyway, I relisted the item. Next attemp was from someone who is sitting nice and easy in Nigeria! Crap. I relisted and now today someone bought it again (30 positive feedbacks) and he is asking me like the lady did  Fedex etc.? is that a scam or I am just unfortunate to get all of them for same thing :( Thanks a lot.

If you are the shipper, you have right with a company like Fedex. Let's say you ship a $1k lens. You have it insured. Person on the other side claims to never have received the package. You file a claim, you get the money back to refund the person. If it's on their label, who would you turn to? You'd be out a lens since Fedex won't just take you at your word.

It sounds more like a hi-jacked account to me. The person who emailed you was probabaly not the person who owns the Pay Pal account.

There are two just in two days :( and I can say with 100% surity that the lady with whom I exchanged several messages was the owner of that Paypal account. I still think she wasn't scamming she just changed her mind later on. However, as I have another identical case today that is making me believe that this is a rather standard scam.

Wow. Amazing. This sounds scaring. Shipping using the buyer's mailing account doesn't look a good idea.

And the sick thing is that you cannot even leave a negative feedback so that other sellers in future can know about the intensions of the buyer.

Wow that's some weird stuff. I would not go for having someone else use their shipper and shipping account if I was selling. Why don't you try it as a regular auction and just set the reserve to what you want it to be?

This is what I am going to do now as BUYIT NOW is like sugar candy for scammers. In two days 3 scams and Nigeria one is pretty easy to find out but this one is not as the lady was asking me to ship to the address that's on her Paypal account and so it's verified. But surely, her intentions were not right. Say uou never receive it and everyone know if you have less then whatever # of feedbacks then your money is ABSOLUTELY safe as it'll never go to seller's regular account (it'll be in balance).

You NEVER accept a shipping label that you didn't generate yourself, and insure. With delivery intercept from UPS and other identical services, the "shipper" is the one that that pays for the shipment, and they can easily have the delivery rerouted.

In this case, the scam is easy to figure out--just hijaack an account, send a shipping label, receive your item, claim that they never received it. You can say you used their shipping label, but you won't have any definitive proof to show PayPal or your Credit Card company that YOU actually shipped the item, nor can you confirm the size and weight, and where it ended up being delivered.

Seller beware!

If the shipping label is generated for the address that is on Paypal's then how can the package be delivered anywhere else? She wanted me to ship the camera to her Paypal's address just she was going to print it. She paid by paypal. I kind of smelled something and that''s why didn't want to ship it the same day although I could as it was all packed.

Like I mentioned, the shipper can have the package redirected to another address--no matter what is printed on the label! Have you not heard of UPS Delivery Intercept? Here's the web page: http://www.ups.com …ch_phr=delivery+intercept (external link)

That is a old scam which has been reported on the forums. The buyer uses their shipping account and you send the merchandise. The buyer then redirects the shipment to an alternate address, which they can do since it is their account in this case. The buyer then either disappears (if on a hijacked account), or claims they never received the item. You, the seller, have no contract for shipping to use as proof for Paypal that you actually shipped your item. You are then left holding the bag!

It was a pretty clever scam when first reported ... and it sounds like others are trying to duplicate it now!

People are saying it is done when somebody hijacks someone else's account. So, in this case, hacker hacks e-bay, Paypal and FedEX account, right? In my case, I contacted the real owner of Paypal (via her e-mail) and I asked her how much of a pain this has been for me and so on (The camera was boxed up in USPS priority mail flat box and I had to change it to a regular one for FedEX) and I wanted her to say sorry but I never heard back from her. A reasonable person would send an e-mail in this situation and apologize. This makes me believe that the scam was planned by the real owner of that account. I agree either shipping address was going to be changed or she's going to claim that she never received the item and Paypal would refund her the money. Does that sound correct or there may be different scenario?
