Exactly.. All my lenses are sharp on my 20D but some were so-so on my 50D.. AF Micro adjustment saved the day..

Usually it's not the lens or camera alone but the combination of the two..

True!

I find Canon lens on Canon body has less problem. As expected.

If you're pixel peeping you'll always notice that the 30 is slightly softer at 1.4 than 2.0; in relative (to other lenses) terms, yes, this lens is sharp wide open, but all lenses sharpen up a bit stopped down from their widest aperture setting.

I don't have to pixle peep to see that my lens is not great from 1.4 - 2.0. From 2.0+ it is so sharp but it just falls off its face bellow 2.0.

Are you Keeping both cameras? If so I hope that they do not throw of the calibration of the first one by tuning the lens to the second one.
I hope everything comes back as sharp as a tack for you

No, I'm trying to sell the XSi.

All of my lenses are off depending on the zoom length. My 50D focus is off big time. So bad I am constantly tempted to make a change. My Sigma 30mm is micro set at -8 All the rest of my lenses have to be backed up as well.

But if you compare the AF consistency of Sigma 30mm to Canon lens on a Canon body, the majority of perfect shots ends up on the Canon Lens.

Funny how sigma lenses do not have as many problems on other systems.

All this just reinforces that I made the right call of going with a 50D vs. the 40D. To all those who claim MFA is a gimmick all I can say is ..yeah, OK.

Not sure the logic behind that but when the Sigma nails AF the Canon non L cannot match it. 2 out of 10 in focus on a Siggy or 5 out of 10 on a Canon and the 'perfect shots' would still go to the Sigma, IMO. If you find you lens consistently front or backfocuses you can compensate for it even if the camera lacks MFA.

I agree Sigma currently has the best 50mmin the Canon lineup.
And please no one bring up focus issues with the Sigma50 like it is a downside. The only Canon 50 that focuses properly is the nifty:lol:

I am also very eagerly awaiting the new 85 1.4 from them.

I got many great images from my 30mm 1.4. When I bought a 1D3 and I found out this lens would still work on it I was stoked. The only side effect was an amazing vignetting that I found very pleasing.
Although I never really felt the frustration of the bad AF that some feel. I have owned many sigma lenses and I have never had an AF issue. I am glad that there is a MA feature on newer cameras, although I have my own thoughts on that. However I still think that if you have a Sigma that does not AF properly, it needs to be re-chipped regardless.

I don't think it is a gimmick, I just think it is BS the manufacturers want to downshift this responsibility. Just ship us @#$% that works!

How often do I see or read people complaining of Canon lenses worth the same price as the Sigma 30 mm regarding focus issue? All i can see are people **** about the Sigma 50mm and 30mm most of the time. There`s got to be something wrong with the quality.
And I`m a Sigma believer, Sigma is sharp, produces great bokeh! when you are "LUCKY" enough to get sharp copy though, like ME :-).

Go look up the Canon50mm f/1.2L or Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L:lol: they are well above the Sigma price range and have the same complaints.

The 2 Sigma 30 lenses I have owned were tack sharp out of the box. Used 1 on the 40d and 1 on the 7D. The first one I sold to buy the Canon 35 f/1.4. I soon realized that while the 35L was a great lens, it was not worth almost $1000 more than the Sigma IQ wise.

I have had to send only 1 lens back to the manufacturer for focusing problems. It was the Canon 24-70. When it was returned it was tack sharp.

That said, % of keepers between the Sigma 30 and my Canon lenses ended up virtually the same.

Perhaps I'm just lucky.

YMMV;)
