I still haven't figured out the basics of photography and the camera settings. I have taken a few pictures with the timer of myself to test it out, but I NEED some tips please

You may want to read this "sticky" thread at the top of the page - it's geared toward SLRs, but most of it will apply to you and your camera also. I'd also highly recommend buying the book "Understanding Exposure" by Michael Freeman - it's a great read that will help you understand all the basics (and beyond). Read your manual with your camera in hand to help learn all the settings and functions, and ask if you come up with any specific questions about how to use it.
