Actually the sudden temperature shift from cold to hot can shatter glass. Don't believe me, put a cup of ice water in the freezer until it freezes solid then run the cup under hot tap water and see what happens.

that's a 'thermal shock' situation where the glass went from one thermal extreme to another instantaneously, I do not believe you would see that scenario in the image setup. Easy way to avoid it is put the ice in room temp/warm water ... flame fuel on top . take pic before ice melts.
