So does everyone basically just set the lens to f8, focus to infinity and shoot away?

Got out yesterday to try it out and seemed like that is what worked the best but I haven't uploaded any of the shot to the computer yet to really check them out. But seriously this thing is damn near impossable to focus via the viewfinder, lol.

Fun lens though!!!

I'll post up some shots once I upload and edit them

Why is the vivitar version 7.5mm instead of 8mm?

Electronic Dance Music, but to most people they think of it as a Rave, but the company that hires me brings in big name acts like Tiesto, Paul Van Dyke, Rusko and such. So not a rave, but people seem to understand it easier when I just say a rave type of event. I have used it at a lower f-stop, but it is so hard to to guess the focus that I just shoot at f8 or higher. Typically shoot at 3200 or higher. EXIF data is intact. For that shot I put camera on mono pod and had wireless trigger to take it.

Cool shot's. I like!
Do you think that those kind of low light shooting conditions will cause problems if I'm shooting on 40D? I'm maybe planning to order that lens next..

Why is the vivitar version 7.5mm instead of 8mm?

It is possible that the mount can be adjusted ever so slightly to give a slightly shorter focal length, or perhaps the true FL is 7.6mm, and Samyang and Rokinon round up to 8, whereas Vivitar wants to seem like they have a slightly wider lens.

From what I gather, on any given camera you can't see the difference.

You can't see a difference, because there is no difference... They are both the exact same lens.

FWIW Opteka calls it a 6.5mm, but it's still the same lens...

This is the sharpest lens I own. 200% crops are still usable. Amazing.

Haven't had a chance to use this lens much lately, but today I popped it on the camera and wandered around my parents' property for an hour or so.

I think I'm in love with this lens now that I finally got around to these images from the card to the computer.

The fisheye effect isn't over stated but still quite visible in some photos (photo #4) while others it's not apparent (to me at least) at all (Photo #3)

Love this lens. I may need to get some of the other Rokinons.
