My Rokinon 8mm is my favorite lens, but I've only used it on my 60D. I recently bought a 5D MK III and I'm curious as to how many of you are or have used the Rokinon with FF cameras? I know it's suppoed to be more of a round picture, but will I be losing the entire fish eye effect that I've come to love?

For those who are about to tell me to try it out; I do plan to, but not for a while. ;)

You'll have to cut out the lens hood petals and seriously crop the picture to get something usable. You'll see. :)

wow, this looks like it's just from a wide angle lens with no distortion! did you do anything to defish it?

looks like there's almost no fisheye distortion in this one.. did you do anything to it? or is it leveled in a way to minimize the distortion.. great pic :)

What's the best defishing plugin/software there is for our fisheye? Fisheye Hemi --I tried the demo and it was pretty good. One of the settings looked the best--can't remember which--there are like 6 or so different defish settings..

important question....! how many of you guys could do WITHOUT an ultra wide angle like a 10-20mm or even 8-16mm BECAUSE of this lens and defishing sotware?? I know most defishing crops off quite a bit from the sides, but I read that fisheye Hemi doesn't really do that...

I could really use money I was gonna put into a new wide angle into a prime is why I ask.. I'm not getting rid of my rokinon 8mm anytime soon 8-)

I'm guessing everyone who doesn't have awesome focus with this lens has found the instructions on how to calibrate it? I had my lens for a year and was baffled at the softer pics.. alllmost sold it, but luckily came upon this post: http://www.flickr.com …iscuss/72157628443488583/ (external link)

Unless the defishing software is very adjustable, you may WANT to crop a lot from the sides, because from my experience, the defishing operation makes everything on the sides MUCH too loooooong. Here is a little demo I set up:

http://www.rahsoft.net/fisheye_demo1/index.htm (external link)

In those pictures, you'd really want to crop the sides of the defished image to eliminate the silly looking long objects on each side. That chest on the lower left looks like an airport runway! The good news is that you could crop the image quite a lot and still have a wider angle shot than the 12-24mm lens I also show there.

thank you. what is that olympus 520 8mm one you have there that is much more narrow?

what did you use to defish? I just read with the fisheye hemi that a big part of how it works is by shrinking the center of the picture, so that the sides won't have to be cropped off hardly at all.

Still, whatever you used to defish looks really really good - and thanks for pointing out that even cropped it's still wider than the 12mm. If cropped that chest definitely wouldn't look as silly--more like the exact same pic as the 12mm one......... so, how about the quality. Because you have the fisheye and use defishing, couldn't you EASILY live without the 12-24? You could be saving me $320 just today...haha, I was planning on buying a sigma 10-20mm to replace the tamron 10-24 i just sold.
