If all your gear broke but....

One camera and one lens what would you "wish" survived the big day?

Ill play nice and assume a strobe and the triggers made it too.

I would pick a 1DsIII and 24-70mm. Dont think I would be brave enough to prime the whole thing.

Hands down -- 5DMKII and 50L.

But can I trade the strobe and triggers for another lens?

Certainly, my 5d2. Though it's not nearly my most valuable lens from a cost perspective, my 24-70 is too important to my day to not have it.

40D and 24-70. I'm out of a job otherwise. I'm ALMOST tempted to go with the 17-85 (As I end up going wider than 24 a lot) but, realistically, I'm not giving up F2.8

Yeah. Much as I love my 85L- it's by FAR my favourite lens - my 28-70 is the lens I use most.

If it were gear we didn't own, I'd say 1200L (sell it and buy all the gear I'd every want)

If it had to be stuff I actually own... 24-105 and 5DII I could still do a lot of photography with that combo.

1DMKII and 100-400L. One of the greatest\most versatile outdoor sports combos around...and i shoot ALOT of sports.

I missed that part...

In that case, 5dMKii with 24-70L hand down winner.

40d and 70-200 f/2.8.

Wouldn't need the triggers, but a flash might come in handy.
