There's a new cutting facility in Lodi. The owner was accommodating in that he set up the judge's stand so the general working area was within range of my lights. (though, for this first show, the judge's stand hadn't been built yet - so we were on some bales of hay) The downside of having the lights lower (rather than UP on the judge's stand) is that you get more 'moon eyes'. .. but overall, I think it's got promising potential. It's always a challange to have to shoot w/slower shutter speeds to accommodate the lights. (can't afford High sync yet). During the turns, the horses' heads can move so fast they blur @ 1/200 or 1/250 sec. .. but even with all of the challanges of covered arena photography, I thought I'd share a few shots from the 12 & 1/2hour show last saturday.
The exposure *did* change a little bit during the day - influenced by the ambient light from the skylights. ... and during the Youth class, the setting sun was shining directly onto the working area. .. it was, um, different. .. but with the lights, the shots were ok to put online.
