This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #264".

This contest ends at 9:00pm EST Saturday March 6th 2010

---------------

We've had some creative rounds, lets do some pet photography. This is one of my new corn snake hatchlings, Mercades.

Great snake, congratulations on the hatchings =) Here's my edit.

Lightroom: Crop, preset: Punch, high contrast, reduced black clipping
Photoshop CS4: Duplicate layer, filter: poster edges, blending - overlay, opacity 26%, cloned out hair/thingy between the coils of the snake, and the mark near the face of the snake. Resize, unsharp mask 50%, bit of sharpening with brush on eye.

I know this is not what would happen to your little hatchling but I had some of these pics. of my dog playing and I thought it would fit just perfect... Rock wouldn't hurt a flea so he would just sniff the little guy!! Extracted, moved to other picture and went under edit and sized and rotated then did some sharpening and hue work:) had fun!!

This one goes to FLO! Congrats FLO! I look forward to #264!

The others I'll just lump the critiques to be quick... sorry I'm late, you'll know who you are from what is said... some greenish blue hues seen, edit w/ dog odd perspective angle on snake, blown out etc...

I thought this one would have been quite an easy subject, single subject/ blank background... clearly this is one where a RAW is a benefit in editing.

This is what I did with this particular photo ( done w/ the RAW file) & is more true to the actual snakes coloring ( on my screen anyway ) ;)
