Actually I like it. Composition is fine, and you caught her with a cute smile! I like the other photo of her in your link. The Burj photos are interesting too.

Welcome to the forum, javrest!!

If you're gonna do selective coloring, at least take your time. There's parts of her neck that have no color and like her hat for example has a huge blob of color.

+1 on taking your time. Also, selective coloring for me is to accent one or more things with a common theme. For example, a girl holding balloons, I'd selective color one color or all of them and leave everything else B&W. On this image, I don't think it works. Maybe it's the rush job you did...hard to say.

Not to mention half of your subject's hair is in color, some in BW, and your selective coloring is also bleeding into the background, all of which compromises the image.

Time for a redo, me thinks...

Welcome to POTN Michael. I like the photo, it appears to be a good first effort.

Actually guys, I don't think that is selective coloring at all, it is selective desaturation. IIRC Picasa uses a simple Desat tool with a round template that is protected from the desaturation. Control of the edge of the tool is rudimentary and does not always correspond correctly with the portion of the image that you want to protect. The tool gives you a quick and easy easy though simplistic way to highlight a desired part of the image.

Remember not everyone is a PhotoShop wizard and NO ONE started their PP journey knowing how to do it all the first time. Heck, I'm still using Microshaft Digital Image for my PP. (The wife does all the heavy duty stuff)
