It wouldn't unfreeze when I turned the camera off then back on. I had to take out the batteries to get it to unfreeze. Now it will only autofocus and meter. When I press the shutter button, nothing happens except for a brief electronic noise. No mirror slap or shutter crunch.

Have you tried another battery? Not sure why, but call me JJ.
