The family and I may be going to a campground along the Oregon Coast (just north of Tillamook along the Tillamook Bay). I have not been to that stretch of Coast in a good 10 years. Anyone familiar with that area? Willing to give some ideas for locations to shoot? Not looking to drive much further south then Tillamook or further North than Rockaway (family trip first photography second).

I plan to scout for a good sunset location, and do some beach portraits of the wife and daughter, but I love landscapes and old building/structures.

There is a giant spruce at Cape Meares, nearby.

Oh ... and the Octopus Spruce is there too.

I plan to scout for a good sunset location, and do some beach portraits of the wife and daughter, but I love landscapes and old building/structures.

There's an unofficial pullout on the south side of Cape Lookout (about 20 miles south of Tillamook on the 3 Capes Scenic Loop" that give a great view looking south from a few hundred feet up. I haven't shot from there in years, so trees might be slightly in the way.

I've always wanted to get a decent shot of the lighthouse at Garibaldi. Not the most picturesque setting, but I like the look of that building.

It's not the beach, but I've always found the valley up Miami-Foley Rd. (which heads east just south of Garibaldi) to be pretty. Haven't tried to shoot it, though. Pastures with steep, tree-covered hillsides behind.

Good luck with the weather. I spent last week in Enumclaw looking for a decent shot toward Mt. Rainier. Glad I was there with the family and not just on a photo trip - it would have been very disappointing!

Thanks guys for the tips, turned out to me more of a family trip :) (its ok, thats what it was supposed to be). The weather was iffy the entire weekend. Got some fun shots of the kiddo playing in the sand and some other fun ones. It had been a good 6 years since we had gone to the beach and we decided to never let it go that long again.

Found a few good spots but the weather was not worth taking the time to set up .... maybe next time.

Photo Exploration Day (Today)

It's been a couple of years since I've done one of these and it's always a great way to meet photographers and just enjoy something that we're all passionate about.

I'm in town from Denver for the rest of the week and it seems that Wednesday is suppose to have the best weather this week.

So I'm thinking this is a COMPLETELY open event to anyone that enjoys photography, you can join us. Meet at 3:00 PM at Pike Place in front of the Monumental Pig and then we can branch out to all of Seattle and go until whenever. I know I'll be out till late as I'm hoping to grab Alki photos that night, too.

TL;DR
Photo walk around of Seattle
Open to anyone passionate about photography
Enjoy an amazing day
Meet at Pike Place Pig at 3:00 and go till whenever and go wherever

Exit 2 is Rainier Avenue in Renton. I didn't know this nest was there - and I LIVE in Renton. :)
