Ok everyone need some location help. My daughters girl scout troop just decided to do a 5 day camp trip in July just north of Seattle. We are from Sandy just east of Portland. My wife and I have done Seattle a few times in the last couple years so dont see much of a need to spend 5 days there. Also just did Victoria B.C. Any suggestions for a landscape guy in that general area. We dont mind camping either.

I'll second the suggestion for the Olympic Peninsula across Puget Sound. It's an easy 3-day trip around that could easily stretch to 5. The mountains are impressive, the rocky headlands and cobblestone beaches, the rain forest are all great.

If you're already north of Seattle and like the water, the San Juans would be another possibility. Don't know about photo ops there.

Of course, this is coming from someone who still has the North Cascades on their "to do" list.

Gosh, it's been almost 30 years since I moved away from Seattle! Heck, it was getting pretty dang crowded when I left in '85, but boy it's gotten worse since then!

Anyway, I wasn't "doing" photography during the nine years I lived there, but I did enjoy getting out and seeing the sights! One quick trip and fond memory is catching a ferry ride across the Sound and back and catching views of the Seattle waterfront/skyline from the ferry as it approaches...I did actually get some shots on a more recent trip there. Another well-known place for catching nice cityscape shots is Kerry Park, north of town. I've never been there, though.

And then, up toward the Cascades! I spent many hours roaming around the area west of the Cascades (I had good times around the Carnation Valley, home of the Carnation Dairy, and in places more "out in the country", but also up in the Snoqualamie/North Bend area). In fact, you can make a quick trip out Hwy 90 to the Snoqualamie Falls, well worth it if you've never been. And, as has been mentioned, there are some very nice places in the North Cascades as well...

And then, I've always wanted to get photo gear up close to Mt. Rainier but haven't succeeded...

Another place I'd love to visit for a photography expedition is the Skagit River Valley north of Seattle, although the things of chief interest to me are the bald eagles that hang out there, but I'd imagine there would be some very nice landscape scenes as well.

Two other things that may be of interest...first would be to do some "serious" wandering around Lake Washington. There are some less-developed spots there, at least I hope there still are.

Second would be a trip up north, across the Skagit River and out west to Anacortes, where you can get a nice view of the San Juan Islands (as well as a ferry ride out if you want)!

Well, enough out of me!

I just did Crater Lake last week, plenty of snow for snowshoeing - one of the days the road was closed, if snowing, don't go too early so they can get the road to the rim cleared.

Thank you everyone for the tips, we found out good news last night, the troop will be getting a large van and taking all the girls to and from ..... this is great for us. So that trip got scratched off the list, however I did add a few places to my google earth shoot list.

Upside my inlaws have decided they want to go visit their son and grandkids/great grandkids on Kauai one last time this year, and they dont travel without my wife and I any longer. So a nice 10day trip to Kauai is being planned for May :D Lucky me I have been twice and hit 99% of the must shoot spots, so I have a few I will be back to but plan to see a lot of the inner island and more local spots.

Nice shots, Joey. The capitol building is pretty majestic. I was surprised by it last time we went through there.

That second shot is really nice! I need to stop by there the next time I head up to Seattle.

Nice shots, Joey!

You know, I had to look back at shots from a 2010 POTN meetup there in Olympia and jog my memory...As the day got late-ish in the afternoon and the weather got drizzly, we began to head away from the waterfront where there was some kind of wedding get-together that was sadly getting washed out...

Anyway, a few of us headed over to the Capital, and as I thought, we encountered that Winged Victory statue as we walked in! I got some shots, but with the lousy weather I didn't come up with any that I was happy with (although some day, maybe another look...)!

I watch this thread all the time, and rarely post here. Here are a couple from different points northwest. The second one is an incredibly tight crop, but pretty fun, anyhow.

Thanks! I guess I should have waited a little longer until it got darker. The sky was very blue when I shot the third image. Oh well, maybe I'll try again some other time.
