Factories like this one often list their manufacturing capacities. In this case they indicate a capacity of 5,000 units/month. If Calumet's already back-logged on delivery, they're waiting on the factory to build and deliver this month's 5,000 units as quick as possible and our little order of 20 units would be sent sometime thereafter.
Several threads have pointed users to Calumet's Chinese manufacturing site, the first of which was Dave's (Tetrode). I thought along the lines you mentioned once as well, but by the time you secure funds, handle the international shipping, import fees and taxation issues ... waiting on Calumet's next batch isn't a bad option.
Calumet's just a victim of their success with these Genesis lights. Most everyone that's purchased them has positive reviews, likes all their features, and appreciates the great price-point. Now that the buzz is wide spread about them and order volume has increased significantly, potential purchasers are becoming aggravated at the delays in delivery. Understandable (I like immediate gratification on my purchases as well).
