I like the price of this unit... a lot... i am going to be doing indoor and outdoor portraits/glamour (maybe) and I was wondering if this sort of light (continuous) or of a OCF (or a few) would be the better idea, and if so, what do you suggest?

I would stay away from kits like this one. Despite the fact that it's cheap (not just inexpensive), those continuous fluorescents produce so little light that you're going to find yourself working at very high ISO settings with wide apertures and long shutter speeds. That's a really bad combination that is very limiting.

If price and budget are the issue then I would forego a two light kit and save for a simple and basic one light strobe kit that comes with the light stand, standard reflector, umbrella or softbox, sync cord.

The Calumet Genesis one light kit is an extraordinary value with a very nice entry level strobe.

It wont be enough light unless you want to shoot at very high ISO and have a very fast lens of 2.8 or better with a tripod mounted camera the whole time at very slow shutter speeds. Then when you need to shoot at f/5.6 or higher then you will want to kick yourself in the butt for not buying a more powerful system. Go with OCF or with a single strobe like the one recommended in the post before me.

I went with 3 flash head units triggered wirelessly shooting through umbrellas. One unit is a Canon 430EX and the other 2 are YN460 Mark II Flash Speedlites. The YN460 MKII can be bought for about $60 shipped and you can go with the TTL version for $75 each but I shoot in manual mode and my wireless remotes don't do TTL (a lot more money for those that do). All said and done it will cost you more than $100 but the end result will be night and day.

that answered another one of my questions... kinda...
If the YN460 (mark II) is able to be an OCF... apparently so! that helps a lot!
If I buy an umbrella, is there any that mount to the "flash" or have "universal" mounts (is it possible to mount to a tripod?)

I also ordered these with the YN-460s to mount them on light stands:

Swivel Flash Bracket with Umbrella Holder

http://cgi.ebay.com …&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT (external link)

The 301 remotes sit under the flash heads and have a hot shoe on top for you flash unit and a 1/4" hole at the bottom that screws into a tripod or to a bracket like the one I bought above (you can also order similar ones on Amazon or any other place), the main thing is for them to have a male 1/4 screw tip so you can screw the triggers on to it and for them to have the umbrella hole to attach the umbrella to it. You can buy an umbrella & light stand in Amazon for about $30 and up but I would order the brackets mentioned above to go with your YN-460s.

If you look at them closely you'll notice they have a hot shoe mount already that connects to your flash head if you decide not to buy the triggers and try to fire them using another flash which is also possible but not as consistent and if you shoot outside, optical will not work for you, you'll need wireless triggers. The hot shoe mount you can unscrew and you're left with a 1/4" male bolt tip where you can screw your 301 triggers to.

thanks a lot enrigonz! That definitely answers a lot of my questions!
I won't be buying until AFTER a camera purchase (maybe a YN460 mk. II) but other than that it's camera, and a nifty fifty that take priority!

These are the 301 remotes I've been refering to:

Yongnuo CTR-301P Wireless Flash Trigger

You can buy them with less receivers for less and you can buy similar other brand units for about the same. Construction quality for these are not the best but they do the job very well for a fraction of the cost and you don't have much to loose whenever you need to upgrade if you do.

Yeah I found one with a single receiver for $23
Plus the flash for $60
plus the umbrella mount $12
umbrella for just $7
Grand total of just $102 shipped... seeing as I have a tripod already LOL
