Are you saying you used the Auto function in Adobe Camera Raw? If so, what's the point of Raw then if all you're doing is hitting auto? Doesn't the camera do the same conversions when it automatically kicks out a JPEG?

.

I hit auto on some things not all and no the camera auto feature is crap compared to photoshops one. End of the day most of my ****s require little pp to begin with. I give u one example that the camera is **** and that's Wb. The auto wb in Photoshop is far superior

Just because you shot it on Daylight doesnt mean that is the best WB to achieve the look you want - you might want to give the image a slightly warmer or cooler look which you can by selecting a different WB.

My RAW workflow is:

Load images and select those for further work.
Open in ACR
Adjust WB to see how it will look with different WB.
Adjust exposure to get overall look close to what I want.
Adjust fill/ recovery sliders to adjust highlight/shadow detail.
Adjust contrast/saturation and clarity
Decide if a Grad filter might improve the sky by depening tones etc (this is where the 14 bit depth of RAW comes in handy - even a sky showing as grey/white can have a lot of hidden detail in it which you can bring back)
Basic cloning.
Export to PS if needed.

I use RAW all the time. When I noticed my archives growing in size, I tried to go back to jpeg, but after one day of shooting I went right back to RAW.

The amount of control you have in RAW is amazing. Many times I dont even bother with WB in the field because the light changes so rapidly during the best hours to shoot. Its just easier to deal with it in post.

I shoot raw also except for fast action shots, and I know my archive is growing, but when the time comes I will just delete all my raw files and keep the converted JPEG.

I have a long way to go with my gears..so any money that I can save up will definitely be going to the gears. btw, I am using a laptop so no option other than external HD..and I have no plans YET of acquiring a desktop. maybe a big monitor to connect to my laptop but definitely no desktop.

RAW especially for landscapes. Often the sky is much brighter than the ground, so having the latitude to adjust a lot is great.

QFT

RAW allows most of the leeway ordinarilly got by using ND grads. Its normally possible to recover up to 2 stops of highlight detail while at the same time recovering shadow detail that would have been lost with Jpeg due to the dynamic range of the scene.

My thoughts? My thoughts are it's about time to get processing some of my old raw shots and do some comparing to the jpegs. I never knew that so many people were using raw (77 vs 6 in the poll). So far my processing of the raw files has been a little tough. I'm still getting use to/figuring out what each of the sliders does and figuring out when to use each one. Learning something new can be frustrating as hell!
