Windows 7 does not have a built-in Raw thumbnail viewer, and I'm not sure if one is available. You can use one of numerous apps to browse your Raw files, like DPP or one of the Adobe apps.

The fast picture viewer app is brilliant. I definitely recommend it!

Go to the above download and install you should then see your raw files, BTW any drivers or software required for win7 if you can not find anything you want then download Vista items as most work for Win7 as well..;)

The Ardfry Codecs cost $29.95 each (only a 14-day trial) and you need to buy seperate codecs to be able to view CR2, DNG, NEF, etc. If you work on several types of RAW files then it gets expensive really quickly.

By comparion, the FastPictureViewer WIC RAW Codec Pack is free (a donation is suggested) and it covers all the variants of RAW files.

The choice is really a "no-brainer."

My suggestion is to use the already mentioned FastPictureViewer WIC RAW Codec Pack. I've used it since it was originally released and it gets better with each update.

Or if you don't mind spending a bit of money, I also recommend Directory Opus. Its a Windows 7 Explorer replacement program that contains several very powerful features not available in Windows Explorer.

One of the modules is a RAW viewer...the advantage of this Directory Opus RAW viewer is that it is based on Dave Coffin's DCRAW (external link) code; which means it creates previews based on the actual RAW data rather than the JPEG embedded in every file. I use it and can't recommend it enough. Costs about $80 but its worth every penny and its use goes far beyond just viewing RAW files.
